Truth be told, we live just within a 5-mile radius from Roan's family, but we don't see each other as often because of their demanding work schedule (most of them are nurses). Eventful reunions only occur during holidays or when someone in the family is celebrating something—birthday, graduation, or a promotion at work.
When we hang out, however, we do make the most of our time together.
Loon Lake, WA
One fine Sunday afternoon in March, Roan, my two sisters-in-law, and I got together once more after having dinner with my brother-in-law and his girlfriend just the night before. Word had been going around that one of their aunties in Spokane, Washington had gotten terminally ill with cancer. We've been talking about visiting her since last Christmas—while she's still alive and able to recognize people.

Right then and there, amidst painting our ceramic figurines at The Hotspot Studio, we booked our flight to Spokane, WA in May. It was a spontaneous decision, yes, but we had good intentions more than traveling for leisure. Besides, it's been years since Roan and his sisters left Spokane, where they spent the majority of their childhood years, to move to San Diego, CA.
Follow along with my multiple-part Washington travel diaries in the next few days. In this series, I'll walk you through experiences from our 2-day stay in Spokane and another two days in Seattle.
