Spontaneous Road Trip to Northern California

Spontaneous Road Trip to Northern California | SCATTERBRAIN.png

As most of you already know, Roan and I drove all the way to San Francisco last Labor Day weekend to meet my cousins from Canada. They had been egging us on going with them since May, but Roan and I didn't even consider because we were certain that the airfare and accommodation during this time will be an issue.

Well, what do you know... On the same day my cousins arrived in San Francisco, we mindlessly packed our bags for the spontaneous trip. The next thing we know, we were driving on the freeway to Northern California.

We left San Diego on Friday evening, and reached San Mateo on Saturday noon. We decided to sleep over somewhere in Lost Hills during the wee hours before hitting the road again because Roan had been awake since 5:30AM on Friday.

I haven't met my cousin's wife Grace since they got married exactly three weeks after we did, so it was something to look forward to. Ran, my cousin's college friend, drove all the way from Sacramento to meet them, too, which made the trip even more fun and interesting. He helped in finding a hotel in San Mateo, which was about 30 minutes away from San Francisco. Because we decided to join them on their trip the last minute, my cousin booked a room with two queen-sized beds—at their expense—for us to share. In return, we provided the transportation with Roan as the designated driver the entire trip instead of them renting a car.

This is probably the first time I'm posting something from what we did last weekend soon after it happened.

I needed to send some of the photos from our trip to my cousins, so I might as well share them here on the blog, too. Since Ran was more familiar with the city, he first took us to the University Avenue in Palo Alto where we had a late lunch. Man, it was love at first sight! It must be the holidays, but the neighborhood was so homey and inviting. Even my cousins fell in love with it!

We then headed to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk to people-watch while the boys fed on some ice cream waffles. It was pretty busy down there due to the holidays, but it didn't deter us from having a good time. Just as the sun was setting, Ran took us to a less busy part of the coastline where we just watched the sky transition into different colors before welcoming the chill of the night. We had some good Japanese food for dinner, then the boys had a couple of drinks while Grace and I decided to call it a night.
