It's a Wrap, April!

This month's round-up is going to be a little different from the previous ones since I haven't been able to blog a lot these days. It's going to be chatty—I'm going to fill you in with some life updates like friends catching up with each other. While you're at it, grab a cup (or a glass) of your favorite drink, and let's get on it.

If there's something I can't seem to shut up about these days is finally getting a job. By God's grace, I've been on the job for a solid month now, and it feels good to be able to contribute in generating a regular income for a household of two. Not gonna lie—I missed that feeling of looking forward to payday! In terms of daily routine, I think I've found my rhythm back, and I can tell that my body has well adjusted to these lifestyle changes.

I can't share in detail what exactly I'm dealing with, but I seriously enjoy working as a Technical Writer. I'm currently on a contract basis since I focus mainly on the technical documents for now, but it's better than nothing. If I may share, my biggest insecurity when I started looking for jobs here in the US last year was the fact that in spite of having a bachelor's degree under my belt, fresh graduates are my ultimate competition. I'm not getting any younger, and if I wanted to pursue a career as an Industrial Engineer, I'd have to prove that the university I graduated from in the Philippines is at par with the US standards. I'm not sure if this is true for most people, but it kind of sucks if it does.

MY HUSBAND AS A CO-WORKER

In case you didn't know, Roan was my key to finally getting a job.

He won't admit it, but he most likely sold me out to the senior management to take on the job, to which I'm not complaining. I'm not sure how high their expectations are, but there's just a greater pressure to exceed them, if not deliver (thanks to my husband). In the four weeks I've been with the company, I can already see a room for improvement, which is good, and I'm eager to act as a catalyst for change.

I never imagined Roan as a coworker, and it's interesting to see how he functions at work. I don't remember much about how he was back in high school, but it feels like being back in the same classroom with him again. Roan is pretty intense at work, and that's partly due to his military background. This may sound cheesy, but I admire his dedication at work. He's like a different person at work, but in a good way.

It was definitely awkward in the beginning, especially sitting right next to him in the office, but I shrugged it off when I'd gotten busy myself. We take lunch together, and that's the only time we are able to talk about what's going on at work (if I'm not paying too much attention around me). We try to talk about them while we're at work to avoid bringing all the work-related issues and stress with us at home.

Roan and I are currently under the same department, and although I have not directly worked alongside him, we go to the same meetings most of the time. Fortunately, there's not been an instance where my opinion differed from his, but if it ever happens, we both need to be reminded that marriage always comes first.

The best part is the convenience of carpooling to and from work with Roan. At least we won't have to worry about getting another car for the time being, and instead preserve our resources for something else. Since I'm also mostly working on documents, I could work from home if I wanted to. So much win in this; there's just no room for complaining!

How about you, guys? What's keeping you busy these days?
