Friday's 10 Happy Things

Friday's 10 Happy Things: Vol. 4 | SCATTERBRAIN

This week has been tough, and I'm not going to try to sugarcoat and lie about it. I officially got back to my workout routine and worked on changing my eating habits this week, so you can tell it's been rough since Monday. Getting up in the morning and sticking to a schedule on top of my daily responsibilities as a housewife is challenging in itself, but this isn't me complaining.

I'm simply being real.

This whole journey—though technically, I'm starting over—is surely going to mess with my head and I'm going to start questioning my own life decisions, but I promised to not be too hard on myself, and believe that there's a silver-lining in all this. On this note, I've written down ten things that made me happy this week, and I'm linking this post up with Helga's:

  • I passed my behind-the-wheel driver's testI've been really anxious about this one because I really wanted to pass my actual driving test the first time. Roan had to get off work early in order to take me to DMV, and I consider that an unnecessary inconvenience on his part. I did read some tips and took some practice tests online, so those might have helped in the outcome of my test. I expect to receive my license card in the mail within the next two weeks, and more than being given the chance to officially drive on my own, I'm happy that I finally have a US government-issued ID other than my lawful permanent resident card (Green Card).

I'm throwing a Twitter party because I passed my behind-the-wheel driving test! Woop!

  • I know this happened last week, but Roan and I, along with my brother-in-law and his date, went out on Friday night to celebrate my success. It's the first time, in a very long time, that we went on an actual date (a double date even) to a fancy bar and restaurant. I had one drink, and being my lightweight self, I threw everything up even before we left the place. Ha!
  • On Sunday afternoon, my brother-in-law invited us to watch a live football game (San Diego Chargers vs. Cleveland Browns), and it was an interesting, albeit stressful experience. We were seated next to a family of Browns fan, and they were trash-talking with some Chargers fan from behind us for most of the time. I actually warned Roan not to interfere if they ever end up in a brawl!
  • Scattered showers throughout San Diego on Sunday and Monday made me happy. It meant I got to wear my sweater and be comforted by the cooler weather.
  • I mentioned awhile back that I went to see a doctor to have some physical examination and had my blood drawn for laboratory testing. Happy to report that all of my laboratory test results were normal and my pap smear was negative. If anything, now all I need to worry about is losing weight.
  • Speaking of losing weight, my post on dealing with my body and weight issues had a tremendous effect, if not all, to some of my faithful readers. I wish I could pull the statistics of how many of you sent an email, tweeted, sent private messages, and even commented on my other posts (since the comment thread had been closed) shortly after I published that, but if anything, I'm truly grateful for them. It's one thing to put yourself out there in the open, naked with the truth, and another to have friends who were ready to throw a blanket on you to make you, at least, comfortable and warm.
  • In relation to that, Roan and I cleared our pantry with junk food and replaced them with fruits. It's a baby step towards achieving my goal, but a step forward nonetheless.
  • Roan had been on a dishwashing streak this week. I don't what he's up with, but he'd offered to wash the dishes (no automatic dishwasher involved) every single day after dinner, and it's truly making my heart swell. I mean, who am I to refuse? It's a pain to watch him do things differently, though, because I'm meticulous with cleaning the dishes.
  • Would you believe that I don't have a single game app on my iPhone? Well, except one. I re-downloaded Restaurant Story 2, and I enjoy checking in every now and then like I would with my Tamagotchi. If you're at it, too, let me know!
  • The highlight of my week (other than getting active again) has got to be discovering that the Army Wives series had been recently added on Netflix! You see, this show used to be my guilty pleasure back when Roan was still active in the military. Though Fort Marshall was a made-up production set, it sort of walked me through what it's like in Fort Hood—where Roan was stationed for five years.
