Whoever said that a married couple could not celebrate their wedding anniversary with their family has not met my own. I’d like to think that we have a pretty normal family, and that’s just how things are dealt in the household.

My brothers and I grew up being part of one another’s birthday celebrations, including our parents’ wedding anniversaries. I’m certain that Mom and Dad take some time off together, but we always shared in the occasion.

Our first wedding anniversary was no exception. Since Roan and I are worlds apart on our special day, he encouraged me to celebrate it with my family instead. It was my call where I want to take them, so I thought of a place we’ve never tried before. I made a reservation for us at Banzai, a new Japanese buffet restaurant in the city.

It's interesting that apart from a wide selection of authentic Japanese food, we've witnessed their Teppanyaki Show where performers dressed in geisha, shogun and samurai costumes demonstrated a theatrical dance while four skilled chefs were flipping spatulas as an exhibition. It makes you feel like you're actually in Japan!

P.S. In case you didn't know, banzai is a generic cheer of enthusiasm, victory, or support.
