Perhaps most of you think that California is just about palm trees, scenic beaches, and year-round summer weather. While all three are true, I would say that each city in California has its significant charm and interesting history. I've only been around here in the US for six months, but in spite of having travelled to Palm Springs, San Francisco, and other parts of San Diego, I know I have yet to see the whole of California.
I seriously don't think I can go around all of the cities in just one go, but it's a 'good' problem I don't really mind having.During the height of summer, Roan and I went on a trip to Laguna Beach. I don't know about you, but whenever I hear or read "Laguna Beach", Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag come to mind. I'm sure a lot of people get that a lot since the debut of their reality TV series. I mean, how can you miss them if they were always headlining celebrity news and gossips some 11 years ago?
I digress. Laguna Beach is a seaside resort city located in southern Orange County, California. It is an hour and a half drive north of San Diego, which makes it convenient for quick weekend getaways. Allow me to share a few fun facts I learned about Laguna Beach during our visit:
- Are you familiar with skimboarding? Well, did you know that it started in Laguna Beach in the late 1920s? Lifeguards used to "
skimboard " on pieces of wood, which eventually became a popular water sport/activity. - You will find more dolphins off of Laguna Beach's coast than that of Florida, Hawaii, and the Caribbean combined.
- The second smallest Catholic Church, St. Francis By-The-Sea, in the world is found in Laguna Beach (more on that later).
We planned and took notes of things to do, places to see, and restaurants to check out, but we sort of ended up just going with the flow. We only spent a day in Laguna Beach, but it seemed like we were able to do a lot in just a short amount of time. For this reason, I'll be sharing photos from our trip in batches. Stay tuned for more!
